Dirt Crew Recordings is one of those labels that always brings the jazzy groove. Their forthcoming ‘Deep Love 2018’ compilation is no exception.
Set for release on 10th September, the seventh edition of the label’s compilation series features 10 cuts from some of their most prominent artists, including Ponty Mython, Harry Wolfman and Times Are Ruff.
The kick-drum drops out, reach towards the ceiling, the air is filled with whoops and whistles. Then a long whoosh of white noise simultaneously builds the tension whilst signalling the fact that the kick and b-line are about to drop. When they do, everyone is briefly animated for a minute, but then the energy in the room starts to flag — but don’t worry, because they’ll be another near-identical breakdown in about thirty seconds where we can all do it again.
You’re living in Europe now after a long stint in NYC. Why did you decide to move over?
Nostalgia in dance music can be annoying. It can lead to tired legend worship, uninspiring sets and a lethargic lack of growth. In knowledgeable, sincere and careful hands however, nostalgia can sound pretty fantastic, inspiring the sort of feeling you get from watching a movie you love for the first time in years or from meeting an old friend.

The 43-track collection was shared by the New Jersey house legend last night (15th August). It features a number of well-known tracks such as ‘Mommy What’s A Record’, ‘Get It Off’ and ‘In Search of Mr. Ford’ as well as a few Nina Simone remixes and numerous collaborations and demos.
The lower floor of Kerri Chandler’s house looks like the backstage production labyrinth of a massive arena. Hallway after hallway, shelf after shelf, room after room, there are stacks of music gear, flight cases, records, records and then some more records. Plus 36 sets of turntables, a drum machine closet and enough technology to fulfill any audiophile’s dreams. He has a live recording room and another room for programming, set up with numerous screens like a multiplex theatre.
“What happened was,” says Chandler, who begins all his stories and/or explanations with these three words. “What happened was, I was a studio engineer before I ever started making records. Early on, I found out a lot of gear wasn’t doing certain things I wanted it to do,” Chandler explains to DJ Mag how “Chandlerizing” became a thing.
On it are sounds from Earth: nature, animals, music from across the globe, and a variety of languages.
“I was thinking maybe we should put something positive into space,” says Chandler, fondling the cherished Golden Record replica. “Music is always universal. What we do always seems to unite people. I met someone who works with Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence and we found a planet to send audio signals to. We got sponsorship and now there are a few DJs with 8-bit clips ready to send out to that galaxy to hit that planet.”
At the same time, Chandler is working on the third volume of ‘A Basement, A Red Light, And A Feelin’’, the Madhouse compilation series whose first volume was released in 1992, the second 10 years later in 2002. A third one would be another marker for the quarter century landmark. Much more recently Chandler launched his MadTech label in 2012 and even more recently than that, Kaoz Theory, named after his oft-used nickname “Kaoz”, in 2015.
Since launching in 2016, Warsaw-based label GASP Records have produced an impressive catalog of versatile and vibrant records ranging from cavernous deep house to staggering lo-fi techno.
Now, the label is set to drop its seventh release, ‘Aerowalk’ from emerging Russian producer Marco Lazovic. Having debuted in 2016 with his mesmerising ‘Life Without Love’ on Jungle Gym Records, the Moscow based producer returns now with ‘Aerowalk’, a four-track selection of reflective, introspective jungle and ambient, percussive deep house.
South London trio Disciples will be bringing their brand of anthemic, melodic vocal house to DJ Mag’s Work Bar this Thursday 14th June.
As part of their The Following party concept the group will be joined by tech-house DJ/producers Jaden Thompson and Unorthodox on support.

Not much is known about this enigmatic new producer, other than the fact he makes luscious tracks with a rough-hewn, lo-fi vibe.
Today's premiere is a docile, twinkling track in a similar vein to Youandewan's stunning 2016 album 'There Is No Right Time'.
'Guava Goose' features on the 'Vapour Trails' EP alongside another original from Garth and two cuts from rising star Harrison BDP.
