It's somewhat incongruous to find a club by the side of the busy road coming out of the Blackwall Tunnel, let alone the biggest club in London, but then Studio 338 has been full of surprises. Having recently been refurbished, its modus operandi is still to offer Ibiza-styled thrills all year around in South London.

That might sound far-fetched, but it succeeds thank to a huge heated outdoor terrace and a fanatical crowd. Since their 2016 opening party in February, they've hosted Elrow, Sankeys, Half Baked and Cocoon, with Viva Warriors, Kehakuma and All I Dream all soon to follow. So expect literal road blocks when the taxis start arriving.

Poll Clubs 2016: X2

X2

Poll Address:
Jakarta, Indonesia
Capacity:
5000

Opened in 2007, X2 took over an empty bowling and cinema complex to become the three room powerhouse it is today, freshening everything up with a refurb in 2014. With a distinctive gold and silver colour scheme, its the main X2 room that has welcomed the international sounds of EDM and trance, with everyone from Firebeatz and Don Diablo to Aly & Fila and Sander Van Doorn. Yet their Ego Ultra Lounge, manned by residents Aland Tan and Barton, offers house, deep house and techno too, albeit alongside old school R&B, and John Digweed has also passed through to keep prog heads happy.

Poll Clubs 2016: RAINBOW VENUES

Barely a week goes by without some renovation or re-investment at this vast cultural hub in Birmingham. Boasting everything from small and intimate cellar rooms to a rooftop terrace via garden spaces and vast railway arch arenas, it covers niche scenes and hot DJ stars as well as super-brands like Cream throughout the year. As well as that in the last 12 months, there has also been all sorts of food markets, graffiti battles, cocktail pop-ups, gastro eats, theatres and another edition of the impressive Chapter festival amongst many more exciting offerings.

Just over two years since opening its doors, Coda has developed a loyal weekly following, meaning getting into the club's premiere events often isn't easy — it can be a tough Coda to crack (groan! — ed).

After outgrowing former underground hub, the now defunct Footwork Nightclub in late 2014, owners moved their operation to a former rock venue offering three times the capacity and flipped it into Toronto's alluring dance mecca, without skipping a beat.

Over the past 12 months, underground demi-lords such as Maya Jane Coles, Loco Dice, Claude VonStroke, Nicolas Jaar, Jackmaster, Black Coffee, Maceo Plex and Tale of Us have stepped into the newly designed booth with over 15,000 watts of PK sound, plus over 55,000 watts covering the rest of the club’s main room and lounge. Going out in north of the border just got far hotter thanks to this haunt’s encoding.

Ever since 2004, Stealth has been the leading light on the Midland’s club scene. Variety is king at this Funktion One-powered club, with nights like Yeah Yeah & What covering bass and grime, Zleep bringing techno and house to the city and Dollop focusing more on live acts. From Eton Messy to Seth Troxler, My Nu Leng to Eats Everything, the last 12 months have been another non-stop rollercoaster of dance-based fun, with the club being packed to the rafter each week thanks to a healthy and excitable local student population.

Open since 2014 on Bangla Road in the beating heart of Phuket, Illuzion is a clubbing Mecca for Thai locals and international jet setters alike. With the main room's T-shaped stage backed by a full HD LED wall, huge theatrical performances are the order of the day, including impressive aerial performances.

This was inspired by Vegas' sensory overload, so DJs have included Quentin Mossimann, Swanky Tunes and LMFAO's Redfoo, but it's not always pure EDM. Sven Väth and Justin James have also made the journey to impress the club's vast array of VIP tables.

The mid-sized MAD club in Switzerland is a new entry into our poll for 2016. The place is spread over no fewer than five levels, three of which offer different dance floor experiences (named MAD, The Red Lounge, JetLag Club and Zoo), whilst the others are taken care of with a private club, Le Prive, and restaurant, BED. Reggaeton nights, gay-friendly parties, legends like Roger Sanchez and banks of hi-tech LED screens all make this a populist choice for Swiss locals, and in 2016 MAD are also offering their first-ever boat parties.

Poll Clubs 2016: CÉ LA VI

Situated in the Marina Bay Sands’ SkyPark and boasting 360-degree views, CÉ LA VI offers unparalleled views over Singapore from the 57th floor.

Formerly known as KU DÉ TA, it rebranded back in June of last year and is as plush as you might imagine, opening at noon every day for fine dining and drinks. Musically, this draws the big-hitters: Lil’ Jon, Gregor Salto and Samantha Ronson soundtracking those getting crunk.

But with their Club Lounge and SkyBar pushing deeper grooves, their list of guest acts also sometimes looks left, Jose Padilla hosting their sunset sessions and Satin Jackets bringing a taste of new disco to this Asian paradise.

The only surprise regarding Razzmatazz and our poll is that it hasn't appeared in it since 2009. Still one of Europe's leading behemoths, the Catalan capital's most massive club has continued to deliver names as big as the huge warehouse it occupies.

Set up as five venues under one corrugated roof, there's The Razz Club, preserved for indie bands, and more intimate dancefloors like Lolita, The Rex and Pop Room. However, it's The Loft where DJ Mag readers can get their fix of house and techno's most wanted DJs, where the likes of Green Velvet and Tube & Berger stopped off during March alone.

Situated in the heart of New Delhi, Kitty Su blends the trappings of India's high-society with dance music’s penchant for a spectacle for a truly intoxicating experience.

Whilst India’s love-affair with dance music goes back to Goa and psy-trance, Kitty Su offers India’s upwardly mobile middle-classes a place that’s more in-keeping with a new, more modern India.

The club’s decor, as you might expect, falls somewhere between artisan chic and over-the-top opulence, offering cash-rich dance music fans a suitably ostentatious playground where you can be entertained by big-name DJs whilst getting a tattoo at the club’s newly opened in-house tattoo parlour — because why not?
