Terms like ‘anthem’, ‘iconic’ and ‘legendary’ get thrown around a lot in dance music with very few tracks genuinely living up to the hype.

But when it comes to 808 State’s 1989 classic ‘Pacific State’ you can be sure that there is an entire generation whose memories of those laid back beats, acid vibes and *that* sax sample are synonymous with the halcyon days of Manchester’s Hacienda. 26 years later and clubbing tastes have evolved.

Krankbrother are a London based pair of DJs who have steadily risen to fame through residencies at their own parties — set in quirky locations across London and beyond. This year, they have decided to make the jump from DJs to producers, and their first EP, released on Classic a few months ago, was a huge success. 

Dubstep don Hatcha has kindly given us a piece of history with this classic dubstep set recorded all the way back in 2002, around the time when the term dubstep was being coined and starting to get acknowledged as its own genre. Hatcha and Big Apple were at the forefront of the movement at the time alongside Tempa and the FWD crew.

Trance music is having a hard time right now. The sound has dwindled in popularity in the wake of the EDM explosion, with many of its main characters moving away from the scene and into more commercial spheres.
