Pioneer DJ has launched two new Serato controllers with a totally new design – the DDJ-REV-1 and the DDJ-REV-7. Aimed at opposite ends of the experience spectrum, both controllers are designed with battle-style DJs in mind, mimicking the layout of two turntables and a mixer.
Pioneer DJ has kicked off 2022 with a cryptic video appearing to show a new piece of hardware. The video previews what looks like a new controller, with performance pads, knobs, faders and what looks like a full-colour screen showing a waveform. The video ends with the text ‘Get Ready for the Revolution’.
Details are light on the new hardware apart from what’s visible in the video, but it definitely looks like a hardware controller or all-in-one unit of some kind, which will excite many Pioneer DJ users who are potentially looking to upgrade going into 2022.
Pioneer DJ has added a new feature that lets you DJ from the cloud using the CDJ-3000. CloudDirectPlay allows you to connect up to six CDJs to the internet via the same hub that’s used to Link devices – there’s no WiFi capability for individual players yet – and use your USB storage device as a way to authenticate your Dropbox account and access your tracks and metadata stored there. You’ll need a Creative or Professional rekordbox plan to use this feature.
Pioneer DJ has announced a new two-channel all-in-one DJ unit called the XDJ-RX3. The new unit features a multi-touch 10.1-inch screen, borrowing a lot of features from their new flagship CDJ-3000 standalone media player. A new feature called Playlist Banks lets you select up to four playlists you use often to avoid having to scroll excessively mid-set, and the Touch Preview feature from the 3000s allows users to cue a track from the browser without loading it into a deck has also been added.
Strawberries & Creem festival has partnered with Pioneer DJ for a competition to discover the UK's best new DJ talent.
The DJSUNLOCKED competition will see two DJs win the chance to play a paid set on one of the main stages at next month's edition of Strawberries & Creem. The first prize also includes a selection of Pioneer DJ equipment, including a controller, headphones and monitors.
