Pure Pacha shines with new sparkle!

Hot current talent like Swedish House Mafia and Goldfish join established dance giants like Faithless and Basement Jaxx on Pure Pacha's new-look line-up.

Ibiza has always had its cornerstone nights. Think Sunday and you won't look much further than We Love... at Space. Monday you're talking DC10 for Circo Loco or Amnesia for Herr Vath's Cocoon. But when it comes to Fridays, one night has claimed it as its own over the past five years - Pacha's flagship house session Pure Pacha. And with Basement Jaxx and Faithless as this season's new signings, they're not letting the departure of Pete Tong upset that order without a fight.
"We've been trying to get Basement Jaxx for years and finally it has come good," explains Pacha impresario Danny Whittle on their headline coup. "They'll play four times, whilst Faithless - who used to play here for Renaissance in the late-'90s - will come back for six shows. Paul Oakenfold returns also and we've also got Sander Kleinenberg in for another residency."

Balancing things out, the new look Pure Pacha spread is as much about the hottest current flavours as it is established dance superstars. The white hot Swedish House Mafia of Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello inject a new energy, as well as live shows from the funk-fuelled, carnival flavoured live house outfit Goldfish.
"It's all about putting in a backbone of established legends but then embracing some really cool new talent at the same time," continues Danny.
"For us, the Goldfish guys are the next Basement Jaxx - we really feel that [Check p46 for more on Goldfish]."
"As for the Swedish House Mafia, we've been all over them for a while and when they play together there's a real energy."

With Goldfish's LP 'Perceptions of Pacha' ready to drop and Ingrosso and Angello's future-discoid electro cut-up 'Body Crash' (as By Now!) causing major damage for Erol Alkan, Soulwax, Pete Tong and Felix Da Housecat, Pure Pacha's timing couldn't have been better. Already firm Pacha favourites, the Swedes' next level sexiness and groove is sure to marry perfectly with the Pure Pacha vibe. Ingrosso, for one, is fully fired for it.
"Pure Pacha on a Friday night is one of the best nights out on the island," claims the Swede. "Pacha is a great club and for us to come in and bring such a different energy from the American house DJs that are so associated with it really helps to take it to the next level."

In another expansion of the Pure Pacha sound, Danish star Trentemøller has also been recruited.
"We used him last year and he absolutely smashed it," relays Danny Whittle again. "He really got what Pacha was about and did his own thing without going too far down the underground route. I guess it's a case of us trying to open the night and tap into a more underground sound, whilst still keeping things accessible to the classic house we're so associated with. Pacha is a classic house club - we've been playing house 25 years - and the crowd know what they want, but at the same time you can be creative, you can educate people."

In a year of fresh change, one thing you can always rely on Pure Pacha for is that sparkle of glamour and with a move of Trevor Nelson's r&b Global Room sessions to Fridays that's not likely to change.
"When Trevor plays that room it's unbelievable," says Danny. "The place goes off and around 90% of the crowd are women - it's certainly easy on the eye."

Roger Sanchez returns for another season of marathon groove-soaked sessions with only occasional support coming from Laidback Luke, DJ Oliver and Superchumbo's Tom Stephan. Paul Taylor's Retro is in the Global Room.

Simon Dunmore's UK born US lead bastion returns with the best house from both sides of the Atlantic. Copyright, Mark Knight, Kenny Dope, The Shapeshifters, Quentin Harris and Todd Terry all appear.

Erick Morillo's celebrated house hoedown throws a few cute curveballs this season with a Simian Mobile Disco DJ set and the dark tech prince Dubfire joining trusted guests like The Swedish House Mafia.

David Guetta's glamour sparkled playground struts in for a full season of Thursday fun this year with Sebastian Ingrosso, Dave Spoon and Bob Sinclair. Dan Ghenacia's Freak 'N' Chic rock the Global Room on two occasions - we like.

A fresh sheen for one of the most polished nights on the island with Faithless, Swedish House Mafia, Trentmøller and Basement Jaxx joining established Pacha resident Sander Kleinenberg. Renaissance team up for four outings too.

House music's original heroes rise up once again with David Morales, Hector Romero, Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie joined by Hernan Cattaneo, Danny Rampling and Victor Calderone. London reggaeton pioneers La Bomba in the Global Room.

A retrospective soaked Sunday with the fortnightly alternation of original Pacha DJ Piti and his Flower Power party and the more pumping Pacha Classics, presided over by Paul Taylor and Sebastian Gamboa.
